A Revolution In Hair Smoothing

f450 collage
We have all heard by now the fanatical craze followed by the woes of the hair smoothing movement. The benefits, I have witnessed first hand, are unrivaled for those who deal daily with unwanted frizz. But the drawbacks are far more detrimental. Certain brands of hair smoothing treatments are back in the news for their toxicity. After a coworker blacked out in the salon while performing a keratin smoothing treatment and was taken to the hospital last week I have decided "no more"!

So what now? Are we all resigned to having to live with out-of-control hair? Is the only other option for taming unwanted curl a harsh relaxer? Not so fast!! ThermaFuse has your answer! Take the hair-healthy approach to controlling unwanted frizz, curl, volume, or wave in your hair without the threat of permanently damaging hair or your lungs. Amino Fusion Smoothing Treatment is 100% vegan, 100% keratin-free, 100% paraben-free, and 100% formaldehyde-free. Translation: no carcinogens are being released into the air before, during or after the service. And because ThermaFuse incorporates its patented Heatsmart Complex it is not only making your hair smooth, shiny and healthy looking, it is actually improving the quality of your hair from the inside out!

Here's how it works:
Amino acids penetrate the hair fiber and bond to the hair structure where it breaks the disulfide bonds (what creates/ holds the structure of your hair, ie. curly, wavy, or straight). The low pH combined with the heat of the flat iron reharden the same bonds in its new smoother structure. When you leave the salon your service is complete. There is no gummy product left for you to contend with for several days, and no follow-up visits. Your new, smooth, shiny hair lasts 12 weeks. Because the treatment slowly fades from your hair over time you will not experience any awkward grow-out period.

Ready For Change

Kelsey came to me with change in mind and generosity in her heart. She had a lot of hair that was getting in the way and she knew it could serve a better purpose elsewhere.

Kelsey is much happier now and I'm sure Locks of Love is rejoicing over her thick tresses.

Levi, where are you?

Where is Levi Myers doing hair these days? Don't worry, I haven't gone far!

It's a charming little shop in Belmont Shore, only a few blocks from where I was at Molly Moon. House of Design is located on a block where it is one of five hair salons so don't be confused. We are upstairs behind the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf located on 2nd St.

Wherever I land, I am still the same Levi and will always provide a wonderful service to my clients. I can't wait to see you!

Fun With Texture!

I had the opportunity to fly to North Carolina recently to do some training with ThermaFuse (more on that to come very soon) as one of their brand educators. Amongst the things I was taught were a few VERY textured haircuts involving a ton of shattered layers. Once back home in good ol Long Beach I went ahead and put my own spin on it working in a combination of contrasting textures... smooth, blunt (yet asymmetrical) bangs juxtaposed with the wispy, whimsical texture throughout the sides and back.

Here's my model:

Blunt Bob

Meet Julie:

I always enjoy cutting her hair SO MUCH for 2 reasons:
1. Our great conversation. She's super intelligent and has all kinds of info to relay about local Long Beach history, music, and art.
2. Her blunt bob haircut is a bit of a departure from all the texture I'm usually putting in haircuts.

I think it suits her quite nicely! :)

Friends of Spice Cake

I told you Spice Cake was going to be starting something didn't I?
Well here they are:

Little Pants

Freckle

...and Martha

Here's the story.
I was drawing an elephant one day while I should have been addressing wedding invitations, Jasmine was flipping through a cooking magazine. I THOUGHT she said, "We should call her Spice Cake" when in actuality she had never even looked up... she had said, "We should TRY THIS spice cake" (pointing out a recipe in her magazine). Minutes later I flipped the page around to reveal the bold pink letters tattooed across her side.

Since then, Spice Cake's friends have evolved through a combined effort of Jasmine and I bouncing ideas off of one another. There are several more in the works and, as all have sold already, we have plans to make and sell prints!

I do long hair too...

It struck me recently that I don't really have pictures of any long hair styles so allow me to introduce you to Liliya. We have all sorts of fun things planned for her hair in the coming months! For now we toned down a more vibrant red to get her ready for her sister's wedding.

Thanks for your cooperation, Liliya! :)

New Art

As you may have seen I've had the opportunity to hang up my art a couple of times lately. I'm always the one that NEEDS to show a solid, cohesive collection, but all this has done is limit me and no one ever sees anything new. This time around Jasmine forced to me to hang EVERYTHING!!!

everything under the sun, by W. Levi Myers at the Huntington Beach Art walk

Since I decided to wise up and listen to my wife, I not only learned and gathered a bit of confidence, but I actually sold a few things!
Jasmine calls him Basil

"Spice Cake".. long story. She may just be leading a revolution soon!

More from this husband and wife duo later!

When Style Meets Personality

My favorite thing is when I am able to give someone a look that really suits their lifestyle and personality, but maybe challenges their comfort zone a little.
When Tianna first came to me it was on a referral from her roommate. She came for a simple bang trim. What she didn't anticipate was a complete makeover! A couple/few bold moves later, I really think Tianna's spunky personality is matched by her fun new style!

Go Short Gradually

Kelly is always bringing me her fun ideas then kindly lets me run with them. Ever since we decided that growing her hair out wasn't the best idea we've been having so much fun playing with new styles as we get a little shorter each time. Remember her last style?

Here is Kelly's most recent look:

A little shorter with some asymmetry...

Today's Offering

Playing around with color and shapes.
Kelly wanted something new. Instead of her usual bold color placements we decided to tone things down a bit this time and aim for something a little more natural...
For the cut I wanted to contrast textures: a bold blunt cut in the back with some softness and chunk texture around her face.
