Ready For Change

Kelsey came to me with change in mind and generosity in her heart. She had a lot of hair that was getting in the way and she knew it could serve a better purpose elsewhere.

Kelsey is much happier now and I'm sure Locks of Love is rejoicing over her thick tresses.

Levi, where are you?

Where is Levi Myers doing hair these days? Don't worry, I haven't gone far!

It's a charming little shop in Belmont Shore, only a few blocks from where I was at Molly Moon. House of Design is located on a block where it is one of five hair salons so don't be confused. We are upstairs behind the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf located on 2nd St.

Wherever I land, I am still the same Levi and will always provide a wonderful service to my clients. I can't wait to see you!

Blunt Bob

Meet Julie:

I always enjoy cutting her hair SO MUCH for 2 reasons:
1. Our great conversation. She's super intelligent and has all kinds of info to relay about local Long Beach history, music, and art.
2. Her blunt bob haircut is a bit of a departure from all the texture I'm usually putting in haircuts.

I think it suits her quite nicely! :)

I do long hair too...

It struck me recently that I don't really have pictures of any long hair styles so allow me to introduce you to Liliya. We have all sorts of fun things planned for her hair in the coming months! For now we toned down a more vibrant red to get her ready for her sister's wedding.

Thanks for your cooperation, Liliya! :)

When Style Meets Personality

My favorite thing is when I am able to give someone a look that really suits their lifestyle and personality, but maybe challenges their comfort zone a little.
When Tianna first came to me it was on a referral from her roommate. She came for a simple bang trim. What she didn't anticipate was a complete makeover! A couple/few bold moves later, I really think Tianna's spunky personality is matched by her fun new style!

Go Short Gradually

Kelly is always bringing me her fun ideas then kindly lets me run with them. Ever since we decided that growing her hair out wasn't the best idea we've been having so much fun playing with new styles as we get a little shorter each time. Remember her last style?

Here is Kelly's most recent look:

A little shorter with some asymmetry...

Today's Offering

Playing around with color and shapes.
Kelly wanted something new. Instead of her usual bold color placements we decided to tone things down a bit this time and aim for something a little more natural...
For the cut I wanted to contrast textures: a bold blunt cut in the back with some softness and chunk texture around her face.

Ivy

Awhile back Ivy let me cut her hair short and add some highlights to spice things up a bit. One of the most enjoyable things about being a hairstylist is recreating someone's look.

It was a group effort. :)

Ivy looks sooo great with her new shorter hair, don't you think?!

Hannah

Hannah likes her long hair but wants something a little edgier. We gave her choppy jaw-length layers on the left side angling around to the right.

The result is something functional yet funky. Now I've just gotta talk her into color! :)

Michelle

I had done Michelle's hair once before when she was timid about losing any length. When I ended up next to her in yoga class last week I asked her if she was up for a little something new. Here's what we did.

Michelle has the most beautiful wave in her hair. I wanted to give her something easy, but edgy. She's an on-the-go artist who doesn't always have the time it takes to blow dry and flat iron. With the dimensional warm and cool tones playing off her natural texture she is now able to wash and go letting her textured, asymmetrical cut speak for itself. I love how this turned out!

Jocelyn

This is Jocelyn. I talked her into letting me color her hair despite her involvement in an upcoming short film and musical.

Thanks for being a good sport, Jocelyn. Hopefully your directors like the final result!

My Original (not to mention best) Model

Everyone asks, " do you do your girlfriend's hair?" The answer is an emphatic YES!

It's easy work starting with such a beautiful canvas.

I Love These Kids

I don't normally enjoy doing kids' hair. They wiggle, squirm, and complain. This little guy, however, sat still for 4 hours quietly drying his eyes of the unavoidable tears due to the pain caused by twisting and ratting en route to these fierce dread locks.

He was 8 years old at the time. Though the dreads are a thing of the past now, he and his brother still bring me pictures of their favorite personalities for haircut ideas. These guys make my job fun!

I'm working on getting some portfolio pictures together. This is a fun cut and color I did on my friend Luisa. I love the raspberry tones coming through from the inside of the shape. (photo by Ivy Hunter)

If you are interested in helping me out by lending your time (and getting a free cut and color) let me know. This offer is subject, of course, to my needs regarding hair type and texture.
