Makeovers and New Projects

Things have been hectic since Jasmine's and my engagement back in May. We're making progress, though, and all this forward movement seems to have lit a flame under me to get creative again. It has felt like quite a dry spell in the studio for some time now, but I've been inspired by these jute coffee bags that Jasmine brought home for me from a coffee shop that she and her sister frequent.

(Loving painting on these coffee bags. They have character all their own)

Some of my new work has inspired me to go back and revisit some older pieces that I deemed "complete" months or even years ago.

(I covered the above Yellow, Gold and Red and...)

(...I am not sure where it will end up)

(another older canvas I am using to explore new possibilities)

In turn, these older made-over pieces are inspiring more brand new works.

(throwing caution to the wind and trying things I never have. Not sure how I feel about it)

It sounds so self-indulgent, but I really feel like I am on the track to discovering my artistic voice. I am impatient, however, and want it all to happen NOW! But alas, it is the path to the destination rather than the destination itself that I should be more in tune to.

PS. This is pretty ground-breaking stuff here. I have never liked showing unfinished work...

Big News!!

For those who don't already know, on May 17 I asked my girlfriend, Jasmine to be my wife.
And now for the big news...

SHE SAID YES!!

Little did I know the wedding planning would begin at dinner with her family that very night! Now, as some time has passed, I'm settling in to the idea of planning a wedding and kinda having fun with it. It definitely is accompanied by its share of stresses, but we love each other and are determined to have fun and make sure this wedding reflects US!

Ivy

Awhile back Ivy let me cut her hair short and add some highlights to spice things up a bit. One of the most enjoyable things about being a hairstylist is recreating someone's look.

It was a group effort. :)

Ivy looks sooo great with her new shorter hair, don't you think?!

Sample new music

Whether you like the books and movies is irrelevant. The music from the new Twilight movie is pretty good! KCRW (Santa Monica College's public radio station) lets you listen to the album in its entirety. This soundtrack features Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Muse, Grizzly Bear and many more. Have a listen. Enjoy!

While you're there check out Karen O's Where the Wild Things Are masterpiece

Kelly

Kelly is one of my favorites. Whenever she comes to see me she's ready with ideas. She explains her vision then lets me run with it. The the result speaks for itself. I'm always excited to see her name on the books!

Hannah

Hannah likes her long hair but wants something a little edgier. We gave her choppy jaw-length layers on the left side angling around to the right.

The result is something functional yet funky. Now I've just gotta talk her into color! :)
